Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at specific points on your body. Acupuncture is a very effective tool of Traditional Chinese medicine, and it can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions. Acupuncture is well known for its effectiveness on pain management on chronic conditions such as arthritis, back/neck pain, and sciatica. However, it is also very effective for treatment of headaches, insomnia, stress, depression/anxiety, gastric conditions (e.g. heart burns and IBS), respiratory conditions (e.g. rhinitis and sinusitis), gynecological conditions (e.g. PMS, infertility, menstrual pain), and many others.

Traditional Chinese Medicine understands our body as having a dynamic system of energy that circulates in a well-defined rhythm and in perfect balance when our body is healthy. When imbalance occurs, our body progressively shows specific signs and symptoms characteristic of a disease. By inserting needles into specific points, acupuncture practitioners stimulate our body to recover and re-balance.

These stimuli provoke the release of hormones and neurotransmitters triggering several important effects such as analgesic, anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxant. In addition, it modulates action on emotions, endocrine, and immune systems and on various other organic functions.

Personal Pilates Training

Pilates is the method once known as "Contrology" (the art of controlling and balance body and mind). It was created by Joseph H. Pilates to train his own body (due to rickets and ashma). During the WWI, 1914, he started to apply his technique to other people. In 1926, Joseph moved to New York, USA and started his first studio. By the age of 87 he died, and since then the method became to be called Pilates.

The main goal is to promote well-being through the improvement of body flexibility and strength. The method brings real results as long as its principles are followed.

The 7 principles are:

Pilates can be practiced by people of all  ages. Our studio is perfect for people who wish to exercise effectively, improve body function, recover from injuries, improve balance, mobility, strength and flexibility. We offer individual and very small personalized group sessions.

Pilates sessions are offered only at Rivereast Chiropractic location. Book our TRY-OUT PACK!

About me...

My name is Sabrina Abreu Schlickmann Gil, and I practiced Physiotherapy and Acupuncture for almost 20 years in Brazil before coming to Canada. I am a fully registered Acupuncturist, an active member of Manitoba Professional Acupuncturist Association – MPAA, since September 2020. My education includes:

Besides that, during all these years I have participated in many short-term courses to upgrade my skills and keep me updated with the best practices. My experience in all these years of practice showed me how powerful the effectiveness of using acupuncture and exercises to relieve pain, better function, and have healthier lives.

I have always been interested in sports and exercise, and in how they can help people of all ages be active and healthy. In 2022, I graduated from the University of Manitoba in the Rehabilitation Sciences MSc Program. My study was about the walking performance of older adults and walking tests performed by clinicians.

I also enjoy learning about other cultures by visiting museums and traveling. One of the activities I like to do is cycling and walking because it helps us to be in contact with Nature, and to know new places in our own city.
